On February 1st, my wife and I went to see Dirty Dancing LIVE, in Concert at the historic Sunrise Theater in Ft. Pierce, Florida.

During the concert we dove into the timeless romance of the iconic film, Dirty Dancing, in a live concert experience like no other. The film was digitally remastered and shown on a full-size cinema screen, accompanied by a live band and singers performing the film’s iconic songs. The show concluded with an encore concert party, where everyone sang and danced along to their favorite music from the movie. It was a truly immersive experience, and allowed you to relive the timeless romance of one of the most memorable movies of the past 35 years, live and in concert!

The historic Sunrise Theater consists of a 1214 seat main theater and a 210 seat black box theater and is owned by the city of Ft. Pierce. Their season runs from October through May, and in the Summer they host a children’s summer camp and show free movies.

Located at 117 South Second Street in Ft. Pierce, Florida, the theater was built in 1923 by the renowned builder C.E. Cahow. It was designed in the Mediterranean Revival Style by the architect John Sherwood. On August 1, 1923, the theater officially opened its doors stunning audiences with its enchanting ambiance and captivating performances. The theater, which had fallen into disrepair, closed in 1983. In 1997, the St. Lucie County Preservation Association purchased the building. After receiving a $750,000 grant, it partially reopened in 1999. A complete renovation, including the addition of support areas, was completed in 2005, and the venue reopened on January 6, 2006.

On December 7, 2001, the theater was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

Today, it hosts a diverse range of entertainment events, featuring local groups and renowned international artists such as Willie Nelson, Itzhak Perlman, Diana Ross, 3 Dog Night, Lindsey Buckingham, Bryan Adams, Vince Gill, Tony Bennett, Ziggy Marley, the late Dave Brubeck, and world-renowned operas, Broadway shows, ballet performances, and various rock and jazz concerts.
